What’s everyone’s thoughts on the NBA deciding to go ahead and resume action under these perilous times? Those of you who know me, know I’ve always been huge into athletics as a former player of multiple sports, coach, and spectator.
I understand the players yearning to get back to their passion and game they love. Unfinished business stemming from the 19-20 season suspension, leads to open speculation upon who the rightful crown belongs to. The COVID-19 lock downs and suspensions have taken their toll on society, let alone the obvious health risks involved. The injustices Black America has faced are at a breaking point with the civil unrest still at large.
All of the madness going on currently in our country, especially for Black America, I have to say I am against the NBA resuming action, NFL as well. Reasons being, instead of chasing personal legacies and gratifications, lifeless objects. One of the oldest tricks in the book used in the past by slave owners and colonizers of ancient America, to distract or pacify their subjects, while exploiting them with villainous acts.
During this time I believe the athletes of these large organizations should be boycotting and using their significant influences to really create change for Black America. By boycotting and electing to not participate in the upcoming seasons, this will critically hurt oppressive America where they are most pertinent. Economically, which is seemingly more important than staying alive to much of America, heavily influenced by 45. Demanding people to risk it all and get back to work, continuing to inflate an apprehensive economy.
The economics brought in by Black America is extremely vital and highly salient to our country. The July 7th BlackoutDay 2020 was a failure, which held around $3.9 trillion dollars in economic spending power. To get the attention of those in power, during another period of civil unrest, several centuries of cruelties and injustices, the time is NOW!
In order to continue receiving entertainment and revenue gained from sports which are predominantly Black, they need to recognize, own up, and makes some major changes to benefit Black America. The players in my opinion can make this major sacrifice for an even greater cause!
When the season continues on July 30th, after playing out that season and returning to a nation divided, broken, and still at civil unrest would be terrible. With Black America still suffering, what good did playing the seasons do for us? Besides generate millions in revenue for oppressive America, not helping those oppressed, and create a major distraction to take our minds off of what truly matters!
