Let’s not forget the true purpose of the creation of the Black Panthers. This group was falsely portrayed as a “hate group” or a “terrorist group”, geared toward halting and eliminating a group of free black men exercising their rights as citizens, while protecting their own. Created largely by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton in 1966, as a group of Black American activists, who were using “active self defense” in the civil rights movement.
They did many great things, but they’re mostly known for demanding greater opportunities and benefits for Black Americans. Such as fair and equal employment, a fair trial in the court of law to be tried by a jury including their peers, better housing accommodations, equal education, and protection of their neighborhoods from police brutality. They also provided free breakfast for school children, feeding tens of thousands of hungry kids, and free healthcare to those in need creating up to thirteen clinics. This increased black pride and brought unity to the communities! With unity they had power, voice, ownership, purpose, impact, brother and sisterhood. That’s strength right there✊🏾
